Magic System in a Parallel World

Magic System in a Parallel World

I thought this novel is a realistic version of what it would be like if someone transmigrated into a different world. The main character also has a western attitude towards how he interacts with other people. He is not afraid to get in fights when it’s necessary and unavoidable. However he doesn’t look for trouble and fight for pride or reputation. When he first gets to the world he is properly confused and tells someone he thinks he can trust based on his previous world what happened to him and gets her help. Even if this might be unwise this seems way more realistic then someone who can transmigrate just claim he has amnesia and fool everybody around him.

The book does a great job showing the development of the main character from at first being confused and uncertain. Then someone who comes from a peaceful world trying to understand how to survive in a world that is full of dangers where those who are strong make the rules. The MC is hard working and is excited to improve his swordsmanship and magic and seeing him learn and grow in those areas is well written. However there are some weird character traits that don’t make a ton of sense. Like in the beginning the story they tell everybody is that he has amnesia, but the previous host was someone that didn’t do well in grades and the new MC does. He magically can do hard math calculations and related subjects that the old host could never do and nobody questions this and just shrugs it off.

The power system is straightforward and acts a helper but doesn’t control the character too much. He is required to do some quests but they are in the pursuit of improving his magic even if it is bad for his relationships. The author does something interesting where the MC actually tells his close friends about his system and why he has to do certain things in order to become stronger. Rather than misunderstanding to constantly happen because the MC is too scared to tell people about his system. This is a little bit controversial since normally the MC will never tell anybody about his system to prevent being betrayed. So far he has not been betrayed even when telling people that he is close to these secrets. We will see if that continues or not.

I am currently at chapter 110, I think the novel is going in an entertaining direction and I am looking forward to how the story progresses. I am going to give it 4 stars, I like the story a lot. I just wish some of the characters outside of the MC had more development. He is trusting these people and it doesn’t feel like the reader or MC knows enough to really trust these people and it just feels like luck or essential to the plot that they don’t betray him. Even when it feels like these people really have no reason to help him and keep his trust.
