I initially found this novel translated until chapter 40 and later read the MTL until chapter 258. I really enjoyed this novel, I am a big sucker or beast taming novels and its probably one of my favorite genre to read.
The main reason why I like beast taming novels is because of the interaction between the main character and the tamed companions. I feel like this novel does a great job with that interaction. The first main tamed beast is a cat with moonlight and shadow energy. This drives a lot of enjoyable cat and human interactions, the main character before being sent here was a cat person so it creates an enjoyable relationship and I liked it as a good starting beast for the main character.
The second tamed beast that comes into the picture is called a drop of water. Which at first I am pretty unsure about, the novel gives this “drop of water” a slime-like character, however there are two main factors that separate it. First this “drop of water” is a major germophobia, so if anyone tries to touch it the pet has to clean them first, I thought this was a fun character trait especially with the other being a cat as well, where you get the whole water and cat interactions. In order to add an aspect of growth this drop of water has dragon blood and so we watch this character grow into a dragon over time, which makes for a fun surprise when a slime like creature can become a dragon.
I feel like with most best tamer novels the other new pets become less important after these two. The novel tries to keep them relevant but at the same time they feel a little forced. The third one is a spark of flame that he rents and then later contracts, I often forgot he has this pet during the novel. The fourth one also feels a little forced in trying to have a romantic relationship with the main romantic heroine where it needs a contract with two beast masters because it has two souls. This beast also stays with the heroine most of the time and I tend to forget about it. The fifth beast I actually think is pretty enjoyable, it’s a mechanical cube that has different form factors like a sword and armor, it also likes to be super cheeky with the main character and is always wanting to avoid danger.
Overall the story is a solid read, the characters are enjoyable and thought out. The story is a straightforward grow with your beasts together against the enemy called the “Abyss”. I wish maybe he grew a little slower and got to enjoy more time with his school, he becomes stronger then his seniors within like the first month being a freshmen at the school and outgrows all of other character companions besides the main heroine within a few chapters. This repeats when he goes to college as well, it just feels unnecessary to have a school story line if you are to outgrow them instantly. I am giving this story four stars. I enjoyed it a lot. I just wish the main character didn’t grow strong so fast.
