Shadow Slave

Shadow Slave

I have so far really enjoyed this novel. I am currently at chapter 228 and I can’t wait to read more, I am currently bummed that there are no more new chapters. I have stayed entertained throughout the whole story but the action and adventure doesn’t feel forced.

The main character named Sunny, is living in a city sometime in the future where there’s a lot of pollution and he is trying his best to survive, living in the slums. He gets caught with the Nightmare Spell, a spell that affects a certain percentage of the population, they are forced into a dream world where if they survive, gain benefits and become stronger, however if they die they die in the real world and monsters will escape from where they die.

This is where his life goes from hard mode to hell mode, he is able to survive and gain powers where he can use shadows to make himself stronger and other useful abilities such as scouting. He then goes to a school of ability users where he only has a month until he will be forced into the next mission, where he is going to go is random and he just needs to do his best to find a way home through a gate. However this is easier said than done.

I really enjoy this novel so far for multiple reasons, the main character has a dark realistic attitude but at the same time not completely broken. I love the depth of his character where he is torn between being helpful and shellfish.

The ability system is one of the better ones out there, each user gets a main ability that suits his/her character so for our main character he gets a shadow ability because it matches his gloomy isolating scheming personality. At the same time they also get a flaw that counters/negatively affects their ability. So for our main character he has to always tell the truth. This combo of both benefit and negative helps balance out all the characters where no one is truly invincible.

All the characters that are in the novel are really great characters so far. All of the core characters have a lot of depth to them and are not one dimensional which is a huge plus in my book. I am giving it a solid 5 stars, it’s a really great story and am looking forward to more chapters coming out.
